MPL-50 - what does this set of letters and numbers mean? M-small, P-infantry, L-shovel, and the number 50 implies a total tool length of 50 cm. Sometimes it is called a “sapper”, but this is incorrect. There is BSL-110 - a large sapper shovel, but a small sapper shovel does not exist.

Infantry Shovel was invented by the Danish infantry captain Linnemann, received a patent for the invention in 1869, and in 1870 it was already adopted. Very quickly, it spread to all the armies of the world, since with the development of firearms there was a need for additional protection for soldiers.
