Hand-sewn traditional Kubanka from karakul with a cloth bottom. The classic trapezoidal cut, comfortable height and tight top made of gabardine provides the cap with an excellent fit and heat preservation even in the cold season. But for a true Cossack, the Kubanka is not only a headdress. It is an object endowed with a sacred meaning. The Cossack had to keep a hat no less than his own head. To take off the cap from the head of the Cossack was considered tantamount to an insult. The color of the top of the Kubanka traditionally determined the attitude of the Cossack to a separate military branch. The blue color was worn in the Terek and Orenburg Cossacks.
